I will build on the achievements of my predecessor, Sarah Newton, who was instrumental in getting £100m investment in women’s and children’s services. The new building at the Treliske hospital will help to transform maternity, neonatal care and gynaecology services.

In the recent Government Spending Round, the Chancellor, Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP, announced a £6.2 billion increase in NHS funding next year and £250 million for world leading new AI tech to help tackle some of today’s biggest healthcare challenges, including new machines for faster and more accurate cancer detection, finding new effective treatments and reducing the workload on doctors and nurses.

I will continue to lobby for investments that will provide better health services and health outcomes for our citizens.
